Description

"Trilobite, Phacops  I is from the Devonian Period. It is over 350 million years old. The specimen is partially enrolled, or rolled up in a ball. This is thought to be a defensive tactic to protect against predators. If straightened out it would be almost 1 1/4 inches long and about 3/4 inch wide.

Trilobites were one of the first animals to develop vision back in the Cambrian Period. Phacops trilobites had reletively large compound eyes that enabled it to see nearly 360o. Phacops belongs to the order of trilobites called Phacopida. This specimen was found near Erfoud, Morocco. From Morocco.
