"Because of its beautiful appearance and ability to be highly polished Malachite is valued in jewelry making as well as all sorts of decorative objects.

This mineral has been prized for its beauty for thousands of years. It has an intense green color, often banded with light and dark green. Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral with the formula Cu 2 [(OH) 2 ]CO 3. It is associated with copper ore.  It's crystal habit is acicular and prismatic  but it is often found as botroydal crystals. Huge quanities of this mineral, in blocks weighing tons, come from the Ural Mountains in Russia and from Shaba, Zaire.

It is also found in many places in the southwest U.S. most noteably Bisbee, Arizona.
