This Leaf Fossil-Davidia antiqua 05.01 is from the Paleocene epoch and is about 56 to 66 million years old. It was found in the Fort Union formation Near Glendive, Eastern Montana. The fossil measures about 4 inches tall on a matrix that is about 4.5 x 5 inches. Incredible detail!

The Paleocene Epoch was a time of recovery for plants and animals world wide. It follows the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period. The earth was generally very warm. Insects and flowering plants grew in numbers and diversified. Forests with trees we would recognize today flourished.
