Fossil Algae

Algae were simple early life forms. They lived as single cells. Sometimes the cells would make long chains. These chains could form thick mats. They filled the atmosphere with oxygen in the Precambrian Era. This fossil is from the Cambrian Period and is about 550 million years old. It was found in Utah.
