Fossil Leaf-fossil leaves of many kinds are found in the Green River Formation. Green River Formation rocks are found in northeastern, Utah, northwestern Colorado, and southwestern Wyoming. They are formed from mountain lakes during the Eocene epoch about 48 million years ago.

The Green River Formation is famous for fossils of fine detail. In addition to the many plant species, fish, insects, and even mammals are found in these rocks.
