- Iron Pyrite Sun B
Iron Pyrite Sun B
"This Pyrite Sun is approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. The round pyrite disc appears to radiate outward from the center. No one knows for sure how these suns are formed. One theory is that they are formed by the fossilization of some unknown animal. Another theory is that the pyrite crystalizes under intense heat and pressure between layers of slate where there is no room for normal crystaline shapes. These Suns were formed 350 million years ago in a thin seam of slate above a coal deposit in what is now southern Illinois."
