Hematite

Hematite is one of several forms of iron oxide. Its chemical formula is Fe2O3. It comes in black, gray, brown, and red. All forms of hematite have a red streak. It is 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. It can have a metallic luster and is sometimes used to make jewelry. Hematite is mined as an iron ore.
