Baculites
- Baculite 1.5 inches A
Baculite 1.5 inches A
This baculite section is 1.5 inches long, .75 inches wide and .5 inches thick. Most of the pearlescence of the outer shell is intact. This fossil was found in the Pierre Shale. Baculites were cephalopods related to ammonites. They are sometimes called walking sticks because of the shape of their shell. They grow in flat spirals when they are young. Then as adults the shell grows straight. Baculites could reach two meters in length.
